I love this! I really do envy your ability to create such believable OC's on the spot.
I loved all the aspects of this story; drowning in paperwork, the mundane crap that he hates doing and the weariness of managing it all, especially in his condition. All of this with hints of his longing to do the things on Atlantis and in the military that he really wants to do (lead his team, fly jumpers, etc.)
"Eyes drifting to the model of a HH-60 Pave Hawk sitting on his desk, he wonders whatever happened to the pilot who used to fly one just like it."
That line encompasses the story so much, I just loved it.
