H50 Fic Rec and POI

H50 Fic rec: As a rule of thumb I do not read WIPs for various reasons, but I've totally been sucked into one the last month. It's not on any of the fic communities yet, (until it's complete I think) but it is regularly updated on the author's LJ. Currently at 16 chapters (about 30k thus far)

The Co-operative
Labeled Gen/ Pre-slash (h/c)
By Sealie

This is a lovely AU that is richly detailed, with wonderful character voices, and a very engaging plot. While down on his luck, Danny moves into a cooperative house operated by Steve a recovering ex SEAL. It has wonderful subtle h/c and deals with disability with respect and care. As a reader I totally got pulled into the lives of all our favorites on the show.

"Person of Interest" has an article in this week's TV Guide and was labeled a 'safe bet' for a season two after its steady ratings surged since the winter break.

I read that the last four episodes were being writen as one giant season finale! Eeep!

Oh, interesting.

I've been living how networks have been branching out beyond the usual cop/lawyer/doctor shows and giving all kinds of new ideas a chance. It took me a while to get into POI (because, apparently, some part of my brain refuses to get into any show until after it's several episodes in) but it's really starting to suck me in.

I meant "loving," not "living" *glares at fingers as they type*

POI is def cool and new. I credit Jonathan Nolan, brother of Christopher Nolan and co-writer of the "Dark Knight" movies for this new feel and approach.

It took me several eppys before I was really hooked.

I had been reading The Co-operative when it was being posted in an advent comm and never thought to mark it for alerts so I thought the writer had stopped working on it. time to play catch up

It's a great read!

Thanks for the rec! Sounds great!

I think you'll really like the rec!

[identity profile] d_odyssey.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the rec! Fantastic story. Just mainlined all 16 chapters and want more now! Love the setting, the voices and everything.

*tackles hugs*

Hey D!

I KNEW you would love the fic as much as I did!!

Im so happy to see you as a constant presence in fandom. You are a shining star!!

[identity profile] d_odyssey.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, thanks hon! You are such a dear. I love that story like chocolate cake.

[identity profile] jimandblair.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
*blush*

you're very kind. Thank you. I'm very glad that you think that I'm handing Steve's disability carefully.

I haven't announced the Co-op on any communities, because it is a WIP. I've debated back and forth backing it up on AO3 but... it is quite frankly because it's a WIP. And whilst I'm having a blast writing this, I'm very much playing in my sandbox in the corner, there's a little bit of backwards tweaking going on and evolution (which you may of spotted).

Ah, I'm blathering -- again 0_o

[identity profile] kristen999.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I understand about not announcing it to the fic coms, I was just letting people know not to look for it there. I think your approach of keeping on your LJ until done is a great method of writing b/c one of the reasons why I don't read WIPs is because once you have a story 'out there', it makes the editing process nearly impossible. I've never had a story over 10k that I haven't tweak earlier parts because a story goes where it wants and not necessarily where 'you' want it to. And being able to go back to earlier sections without any pressure is awesome.

I re-read it this weekend because I wanted a break from my epic coda and noticed your edits. Also the little clues you sprinkled throughout the story that I didn't catch the first time.

Like I said, your fic is a treat. It hits so many of my buttons :D

Thanks for the rec. I want to move in to that co-op.

I'm commenting here, too, to let the author know how much I am enjoying the story. (Those pages are among the LJ pages for which the comment section is showing up all messed up for me. I cannot leave a comment. My own journal is the same way at the moment.) I am enjoying the attention to character detail and all the little bits woven in from the show and I love how they are as much of a team at the co-op as they are back at HQ. I also like that there is an interesting plot running through it. The fire scenes were intense. I am looking forward to reading more.

I'm glad you liked the rec.

I just went on your LJ as annymous so it wasn't in my style. I clicked to leave comment an yes, 'it wont allow to leave a comment' if you don't have anything typed in it. Once you type words, the post comment button becomes active.

Hope this helps.

Do you have a custom LJ by chance?

[identity profile] tridget.livejournal.com 2012-01-25 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a custom journal, but the actual page on which I put my posts is the default blank. I must have had a major brain gap on the posting issue because, yes, the word post does highlight once I start typing. *facepalm*. However the pages were still in disarray in some journal entries in both my journal and some others (not yours). However, today it is suddenly all fine again. I don't know if it was something LJ was working on or some setting I had changed on the computer.

[identity profile] kristen999.livejournal.com 2012-01-25 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay. Because if you have a custom page when you click on your friend's page, there's a box at the right top that you click to 'view in my style' which makes all your f-list look like your layout and all the comment stuff will remain the same and nothing will appear funky.

:D

Yippee for a ratings surge! Always happy to hear when I show I love is loved by others.

the last four episodes were being writen as one giant season finale

And a cherry on top!

[identity profile] kristen999.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah! Apparently POI went from a steady 11 mil to around 14 million after the mid season break. They ran key repeats during that time and word of mouth and good press really helped it!

I'm so seconding your rec for "The Co-operative". I'm in love with it and while I hope that it still goes on for a while - I'm also hoping that's it finished soon so that a) I can re-read it all in one go and b) can rec it in my journal. :)

[identity profile] kristen999.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Blasphemy woman! I hope the fic goes on for as long as it has to because there's been a real drought of good, plotty h/c out there. :D

But it is good :D

I know and feel bad for even thinking about it but I want to point people to this fic! *flails*

Yeah, I hear you! Not much fics out there at the moment in general. :(

It's so, so, so very good!
