Here is my fanfic in review meme with a few comments about each story. I felt it was and up and down year for me in terms of what I was able to write and what I wanted to get done, but I’m pleased with the quality of the four stories I got out in 2009.

I’ve also updated my “Master List” and with the help of the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] x_erikah_x all my stories are now listed off to the side of my LJ!!!

Total number of stories: 4 plus a number of Last Fic Writer Standing one shots.

Total word count for this year (finished stories only, including co-written stuff.) 90,000 k

Total word count for WIPs. 50k All for the John and Ronon epic.

The fic:

April

“The Sting”

If I recall correctly, I couldn’t do a damn thing with the original prompt for the genficathon. I won’t give it away, but it was NOT ME. I always take a challenge, but my brain was jello. When [livejournal.com profile] friendshipper came back with ‘don’t take a knife to a gun fight’, my muse instantly got super excited about the team going under cover, being super sneaky, and being extremely over the top and bad assed! I admit imagining them in their cool costumes was my main motivation and [livejournal.com profile] astridv made an illustration for it and I was so super excited that the story inspired it. Her artwork is not included with the story :D

September

“Life’s Equations”

I don’t think Sheppard is this super closet genius, but I do believe that he is very intelligent and does have great mathematical skills based on what we’ve seen in the show. This was my attempt to illustrate how math was a means to an end for him and its influence on his life. I was also tickled by the wonderful cover art [livejournal.com profile] x_erikah_x created for the story which is now included with the fic.

November

“Long Ago (And Far Away)”

I wanted to write a WW2AU last year, but didn’t make much headway, although the plot was slowly fleshed out in my head. When Big Bang was announced, I was giddy that [livejournal.com profile] everybetty was willing to write it with me. We didn’t make Big Bang, but I think to date, it is some of the best work either of us has done and it gave us a vehicle to write a more layered story that touched upon deeper themes.

December

“End Game”
I’ve always wanted to write more solider!Sheppard and this was the perfect opportunity to have this tense, action plot, with a lot of cool and real military tactics and traps. In the end, I really enjoyed John of Season One with team and lots of comfort afterwards.

Favorite story this year (not co-written): “End Game”

Most popular story this year, in my opinion: Based on reviews. “Life’s Equations”

Most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: N/A

Most fun story: “The Sting”

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: “Long Ago (And Far Away” Given the era, we really had to re-think how the team would interact and react given the constraints and prejudice of the time.

Hardest story to write: “Long Ago (And Far Away)” Historical AUs are so research intensive to do them justice.

Biggest disappointment: N/A

Biggest surprise: “Life’s Equations” It was neat to see how many people really enjoyed this story.

Most telling story:

Overall: I am disappointed at how little I wrote this year. In 2008 I was unemployed for several months where I funneled a lot of my time into writing. I think the smaller volume of work made this year seem kind of slow. However, I spent five months writing a story that is still incomplete and I am very happy with the quality of the fic that I did write.

Ambitions for next year: Finish the John and Ronon epic!
