Cool article on Person of Interest. Is the machine turning into SkyNet?

Do NOT F with Reese, even when he's on crutches! That's lesson number one. But more importantly, Person of Interest is doing some really, really cool things with themes of privacy, technology, and good old-fashioned ass-beating. CBS's new drama has been pretty terrific all season long because it benefits from a clear sense of what it is and what it's about, and all the while has building an intriguing story with interesting characters. Last night's episode, "Super", continued this, and gave us a flashback for one of the show's coolest characters: Finch's computer code, which we lovingly refer to as the program, computer, or machine. ----Read the rest here.

Dark Knight Rises:

In the Dark Night Rises news, there were a few more images released from the upcoming film of both the tweaks to the batsuit and that of Bane. So excited! Click 'link' for pics.

Writing:

I hit 17k on my 2.10 Coda. \o/
My goal is to finish a section tonight, leaving the last one to tackle! Guess I'm going over 20k

I'll be doing my mini DVD commentaries over the course of the week :D

Me:

Going to a staff party tonight. We've rented out a Cuban/Mexican place. Full buffet and open bar. I'm excited and plan on sticking to wine.

Last year at the party, Trent won a Golden Globe. Here is to two years in a row!

H50:

I'm stoked for the casting news for a Feb eppy of H50!!

Happy Sunday. Here is a new pic of Alex looking stunning in blue! (And not wearing a belt. I have no idea what I noticed that!)

This looked like fun for over the weekend: Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] penknife.

Pick a paragraph (or any passage 500-1000 words) from anything I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary.

Oh my gosh! I did NOT have to herd cats this year for the [livejournal.com profile] sheppard_hc Holiday Exchange! There was only one goof on my part which was fixed, two no-shows that canceled each other out, and I'm only waiting to hear back from just one person! I felt like such a task master with my zero tolerance for late submissions, but it was that or not run the exchange at all for my sanity! The authors are a great bunch and I love them all. Can't wait to read them over the next few weeks.

I'm going to finish the masterlist on Tuesday to share with everyone!

Speaking of writing. OMG! I hit 13k on my Hawaii Five O 2x10 coda!

What is wrong with me??? It's probably going to be around 20k. *flails*

I stopped reading other codas so they would not influence me, but I think it's delving into themes that I wanted to explore in-depth and that's important to me as a writer. I can't wait to read the one's I've put off as a reward when I'm done!

To my “Person of Interest” fans. I've got the trailer to this week's new eppy. YAY! I'm giddy with excitement and based on the promo it looks like were getting continuity to the events that too place during the mid-season finale. (You have to look closely to see what I'm talking about)

No, new H5o tonight :(

But I came across this pic of Alex (circa 2009 perhaps)all hard at work on the computer. I find this pic adorable and I don't know why.

[livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking went live last night and I was just flabbergasted at all the wonderful things there. Icons, fic, greetings, even a DVD commentary on one of my stories! I'll do a separate post to share all the goodies later, but I wanted to thank everyone who played elf!!

I stuffed one stocking (ran out of time this year) and thought I'd share.

Hollow--850 word Supernatural story. Slightly Dark!fic. Rated R. Dean centric. Set in Season Two or Three. Beta by [livejournal.com profile] powrhug

The [livejournal.com profile] h50_exchange posted their master list 'here'. Everything is still anonymous until the reveal, but they have everything collected by pairings or Gen.

It's kind of an odd feeling not to be writing tonight since I'm done with the rough draft of my holiday swap. Hee. Between that and the exchange fic, I've written close to 40k in the last two months!

I'm currently mulling my own coda to H50's 2.10 which means I'm going to stop reading ones that other people post. I don't want to be influenced by what others have explored, or be afraid to cover the same ground. Does anyone else do that?

It'll be while before it sees the light day since I'll be going out of town soon and it is going to be on the longish side.

I've had a ton of new folk join my LJ in the last few weeks! *waves hello*. A few people have PMed me about where to find the rest of my work. All my fic is tagged, so if you're looking for SGA or H50, hit the tag mark and it'll bring everything up. Or check out my Master List at the top of my journal.

I'm going to try to catch up on some reading tonight, maybe watch the NCIS eppys I've got piled up over the last three weeks. More than likely I'll be back with a epic pic spam of doom that I've been playing around with.

The last couple of nights I've been staying up late. Hubby bought me my first laptop last month when he got a good deal on newegg.com (yay!) and I've been loving the whole being able to watch TV, play online, and write at the same time.

Saturday night I watched “Man On Fire”. I forgot how dark and gritty that film was. Wow. And last night I caught a random episode of “Breaking Bad” which was really intriguing. I've read great things about the writing and acting so I might acquire the first season and go from there.

I've noticed an increase of people on my F-list. Hi all! Just in case anyone is wondering, my LJ is manly a place where I post my fic, squee about fandom, post pictures, random articles and talk about writing. It's mainly a positive 'have fun' type of place. Nothing too heavy say for an occasional rant. I save personal stuff for rare locked entries.

On the writing front, I crossed 10k on my “Hawaii Five-O” story! I've fought and pushed most of the 'this is boring' doubts mainly to the side. It's part case fic and part Steve SEAL back-story.

I'm a third of the way there. Finished the first 'arc' and have started on the second arc :D
kristen999: (H50 Team)
What a whirlwind week. Not only did I have to recover from my trip to Vegas, but at work we had a 40th Anniversary party yesterday, and LJ has been fighting so many illnesses.

Oi.

On the writing front, I wrote my 6th Hawaii Five-O story! Somehow I posted "Tread Softly" in the middle of the DOS attacks.

Today, I decided to rearrange my Master Fic List. Now when you click on the link, my writing is in order by fandom, than listed chronologically.

So, all my Hawaii-Five-O and SGA fic are grouped together for easy browsing. If you're new to my f-list feel free to check it out "here." My Master List is stickied at the top of my LJ and everything is tagged by fandom.

I've started my long story this weekend and boy, there's a lot of research to do. Thank goodness for fandom friends who've helped me out with some big picture ideas!

The summer [livejournal.com profile] sheppard_hc exchange should begin posting tomorrow! I kept the posting dates of the 1st through the 7th because LJ seems to be working fully at the moment. If it goes down again, I'll probably mess with the deadlines. I've got some last minute tweaks to do to my entry, but I'm pretty pleased how it's turned out.

Back to “The Big H50 fic”. Yes, that's the file name until the title comes to me...lol

Flashbacks

Jul. 29th, 2011 08:01 pm
kristen999: (Steve SEAL)
I've been pondering something and while the annoying goat only allows tiny posts, I thought I'd throw my question out to those who are riding the crazy LJ train.

My next Hawaii Five-O story is going to contain a number of flashbacks. Some will be short while others will be a few pages long. I have a love hate relationship with flashbacks, but they are really necessary.

My questions is this.

With the longer flashbacks, should I keep them all in italics or should I do the whole date and location thing at the beginning of each one?

Is one less jarring or more helpful than the other?

Thoughts?

EDIT

I'm going with a date and location for the long passages of flashbacks.

Thanks to everyone for their input and thoughts!
kristen999: (I will be death)
It's funny. I was one of the first people to get excited about [livejournal.com profile] five0bang when it was announced, now with the deadline ending tonight, I don't think I'm going to sign-up.

I really want to, but the minimum word count is keeping me from proceeding. I've written dozens of stories 40k words long, but the plot I have in mind is more a 20-30k type thing and I don't want to risk signing up and being forced to tack on words I don't need to. My predictions about the length a story are pretty accurate. And this is the story I want to write right now.

I'll mainly miss the excitement of a collective group effort working toward the same goal. I admit, I love the idea of collaborating with an artist. There's just something extra special about seeing how words inspire an artist's creativity.

On a positive note, I won't have to wait until January to post it when it's done. :D

Okay, done whining :-P
kristen999: (Ronon John Nice Guys)
I always know when work/life is trying to kill me based on how much I channel my stress. I actually get a lot of writing done although everything else falls behind. Reading for one, but I try making up for that on the weekends.

I posted my NCIS fic "Anchor and Hold" this week and I'm pretty happy how that turned out. I'm glad I wrote it because I really got pulled back into the show and I forgot that I've been watching it for over seven years and never talk about it! lol

I started my Sheppard HC story after a lot of happy research time and found a really cool theme to explore. After writing in the fandom for four years, I'm always tying to do something new or creative. That's due August 1st, but I hope to get it done in the next couple of weeks before I go out of town.

I've really started to flesh out the plot to my next Hawaii Five-O story. I am STOKED about this one. I finally have what I feel is a full in-depth story that will allow me to do some real character exploration with multiple story-lines! I know that sounds geeky, but this will allow me to write more Chin and Kono with a hefty Danny and Steve plot. And, I get to really dig into SEAL!Steve some more.

Sitting here trying to decide if I should throw nine pages of a subplot out the window.

Thank goodness I save drafts of my stories before I make radical changes. Version 4.0 here I go!

EDIT:

Aha! This is why I like numbering drafts. Didn't have to throw the whole subplot out, but did some major cutting and pasting. Rearranging several snippets of various scenes has had a profound effect! YAY!

In May of 2001, I began posting fan-fiction. Throughout my life writing has been a release and fandom a tremendous joy. According to one archive, I've written 1.5 million words over the last ten years.

Holy my lord.

I find this creative outlet to be extremely cathartic.

As of right now I have an NCIS fic that is nearly complete, an SGA one up to bat, and a H50 story waiting in the wings.

And I am loving every moment of it.

I want to thank those who have have read my work and shared in my joy.

Fandom would be a fulfilling, but solitary experience without you.

HUGS

8k words on the NCIS fic. 8k!! And I'm like...um...could we please figure out the tone of this monster?

Luckily, I found my stride and outlined the rest of it before spiraled completely out of control.

McGarrett is giving me all kinds of stern looks and let's not forget about Sheppard who quirked an eyebrow at me tonight. They might tussle soon over who gets written.
