On Sunday, July 11, 2010, a total solar eclipse will occur over Easter Island. The moon will pass in between the Earth and Sun thus blocking approximately ninety percent of the sun. The moon’s perfect distance from the sun will cast a shadow rendering darkness upon Easter Island for approximately four minutes at 18:00 Universal Time. The eclipse will also be visible from several locations surrounding Easter Island. The next total solar eclipse isn’t expected for another three hundred years in Easter Island. The remarkable sight will embrace the historic statues, moai, for the first time in history.
