I stand corrected. I guess I thought he had resigned to take the position............ If he is in the reserves, it means he regularly drills and is in the non-active status, but if the Navy should need reserves, he can be called up. However that does not explain why he introduces himself as Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett. That normally is not done save for drilling purposes.
