Um..Okay Torchwood Question

kristen999The past two weekends I've left Dr. Who and Torchwood on in the background while I wrote. It makes me raise an eyebrow or two now and then. I should just go on wikipedia but if I ever decide to watch from the beginning without being spoiled, I don't want to.
But Jack just go stabbed in the chest by this..well um alien knife/sword thing and he just walked or more like ran away without batting an eye.
Can he not be hurt or something?
