My sweet, wonderful, messed up Colonel.

You need thearpy. I have always known you have--but now it's canon.

:-P

Hopes John has some nice cuddles. Or one of his I don't need a hug embraces :-P

If only we could have seen the nice cuddles, er comfort from the team, the fallout from his hallucination. It is canon now, but I feel like I didn't find out anything new about Sheppard. I mean we all knew he carried the guilt of every death, injury and failure. I just love Sheppard and I miss him this year.

There has been a major lacking of John this year and the number of times Ronon and Teyal have gone missing is awful.

No kidding. Isn't Flanigan the star, not Straithe? You'd never know it this year. I think she's gotten more featured episodes than he has. I am dreading Infection, Brainstorm et al. I don't watch the show for McKeller. I watch it for Sheppard, then Teyla, then the team as a whole. The writers are actually making me dislike McKay and Keller as characters with how they jam the pairing down our throats.

topics for John's analyst....

Says a lot about what John thinks of himself and his failures that he would subconsciously choose to torture and punish himself that way. Obviously John continues to blame himself for everything, rightfully or not. While some of this is his childhood damage of feeling rejected, unworthy and unlovable, most of it is his own neuroses. In the end, aren't we always our own harshest critics and most merciless tormentors?

Very, very sad.

Which begs the question of why? Mom died while he was young....lack of affection from a cold father....seen too much war?

I'm just not sure...it could add up over time.

Yeah, I think (d) for all of the above. There's only so much anyone can stand and special forces members seem to have a lot of issues with burying the really horrible things they've seen and done until they explode. I think John's from a family background where emotion was repressed as well, which just reinforces that.

Watching Remnants actually depressed me because Flanigan did such a good job showing how deeply unhappy and broken Sheppard is under the facade he projects. Lonely as well since he was noticeably alone and without allies or rescue in his delusion, literally the last man standing. All the characters except Teyla and Ronon seem to take him on face value too. They're going to end the show without resolving any of it and leave him a tortured and miserable person. It's such a dark fate. O'Neill for all his traumas was an essentially happy person, or if not happy, at least at peace for the most part. Ditto on the ever optimistic Cameron. Why leave Sheppard twisting in the wind like this? I guess the message is that they think he's too broken to fix?
