"Red Sands" Week Seventeen- Stick a Fork in me

First draft is done.

The last fifteen thousand words are gibberish and the conclusion will be turned into something readable later in the week. The entire thing is one ugly quilt work of patches, but it has a beginning, middle, and end.

The beta process will be long, and I look forward to the re-writes, but don't expect them anytime soon. That being said, this phase is done!!!

It would be quite tough to have updates on the beta process without being specific about that battle. I do admit that Ronon's 'journey' was strong throughout the story and it faded out toward the end while I was busy dealing with John's many sorted issues :-P The first of many revisions is going to be tracing Ronon's arc and finding ways to flesh out his experiences in the 'recovery/discovering' sections.

Thank you. I admit I have mixed emotions about this story and they are very much my own personal hang-ups. I feel after the heels of "Long Ago" that “Red Sands” is kind of a step down. Whereas “Long Ago” had many layers, dealing with a lot of serious themes, I look at "Red Sands", and go wow, this doesn't break much new ground.

I have to step back and realize they are two different types of story. While "Long Ago" explored serious subjects, "Red Sands" is more of an adventure story, and I should accept it as one. That’s what I set out to write and I’m happy with the world building and the character exploration, but I can’t help comparing it to my earlier work.

Way to go!! That is awesome. The hard part is over - you've got your story on (figurative) paper and all that's left is the rewrites and tweaking, small beans after the first draft. You should be super proud of yourself. This is a huge accomplishment!!
