On The Ropes

Ignore for ramblings about writing.
I have my Secret Santa on the ropes in round twelve of a non-stop brawl. It has been kicking and punching and yes, spitting at me at every corner. I have most of it done, minus two or three scenes. I hit 28k tonight.
It's very big on plot and interactions.
The one thing I've learned from previous battles is to revert to 'screen writer mode'. With tons of lengthy sections building top of each other, I craved the desire to sit back and observe the whole picture. I'll write mostly dialogue and any pivotal action. I won't even write who is saying what, but that's a great exercise in itself. The ability to 'hear' the character voice without seeing the name.
Once I've done that for say 5k words, then I can 'see the big picture things' and feel more confident going in and filling all those needed details.
I've missed out on a lot of reading, but I'll go down the list once I've turned this over for beta.
Weeeeeeee!

Date: 2010-12-30 02:12 pm (UTC)I love that screenwriter mode style of writing. It doesn't work for every story (for me), but when it does, it's awesome. I feel like I get so much of a story down on the page (where it won't be lost in my head forever) in a very short amount of time. Good luck with the rest of your Secret Santa story!!
