Rare non-fandom post. I live in Buffalo, NY. I've signed a number of petitions and left plenty of voice mails to my local representatives. And today I am thrilled!

Go Equality!

Good for you!! And GOOD For New York...discrimination in any form is wrong.

When I lived in Miami, I worked very hard for equality in Miami-Dade County. Those of us who can marry, share benefits with our spouses, have our spouces visit us in the hospitals, all things we take for granted, need to make certain that no one among us is denied that right.

So glad to hear this news!!!

I've had friends move elsewhere because they could not marry here and share in the same rights as other couples. This country was founded on freedom, civil rights and equality and we've had to fight for it all.

It's about love for crying out loud!

:D

When I went to work this morning and stood in line for my veggie juice, a random customer said out loud "let's here it for our state senators" and the ten customers around me broke out into a cheer.

That was cool! Of course I work at a co-op and we rock!

One day people will understand that the laws of the government will not lead you to Heaven, (more the case of Hell)....only gives people their God given right to chose for themselves and for those that do not believe in that hell fire and brimestone higher power a chance to live a life not forced upon them because "God said so"

I respect all religious people and I hope one day that certain religious groups will once again focus on spreading acceptance and love.

Some religious fractions have never been about spreading acceptance and love.....but as long as there is life there is hope.......One I can think of has always been about 'it is our way' or Hell bound you are

That is why I am firmly for Religion and Government being separate and not used to dictate laws. Oh lord, off soap box and back to writing, LOL.

I'm back to working on my HC Sheppard, LOL. I'm almost done which is a first for me when it comes to challenges and deadlines.......Hope I haven't jinxed myself....

Squeeing along with you! Awesome news. It is about fairness and equality - something all Americans are supposed to have. Yay for New York and special shout out to Governor Cuomo.

He deserved a lot of kudos as well as some of the Republicans who crossed the line.

I had to. It was my representative who went from 'no' to 'undecided' and we focused on sending polite, positive messages of support.

Amazing victory. Hopefully it will stand the test of time and we won't have special interest fear-mongering overturn it. -Diane

They studied the California bill and put in some protections so it would. Hopefully, in twenty years people will look at marriage equality in the same vein as inter-racial marriage. Especially given that most of the arguments that were used against inter-racial marriage are the same ones being used against marriage equality now.
