Calling for recs:

Does anyone have any favorite h/c stories to rec? I'm looking for H50, NCIS LA or Spn. I really want some comfort. Any length.

A meme:

I saw this while I was out of town.

1. Go to page 7 of your most recent WiP
2. Count seven lines down
3. Copy and paste the next seven lines of text

This is from my [livejournal.com profile] casestory and it's more than seven lines because I'm a rebel.

“Commander Tillman to see Lt. Commander McGarrett. Would you to direct me to his office?”

Danny grit his teeth. “Sure if you could tell me what this is about?”

“Sorry. This is a military matter,” Tillman said dismissively.

“Concerning a case?” Danny pressed slightly perturbed.

Tillman adjusted the cap under his arm, steel blue eyes peered down at Danny like he was annoying errand boy. “Concerning things above your pay grade.”

Danny's blood pressure doubled, a diatribe on the tip of his tongue; but he kept a lid on his temper, and yeah, Steve owed him for that.

NCIS:LA

I know you know these already, but maybe they tide you over until someone can rec you something you haven't read already:

Not a squirrel by katikat
Gen.
Summary: Callen's hurt, Sam feels guilty. Fred makes everything better.

Tea and Sympathy by Waldo
Gen.
Summary: After a cold shower, in a mall, Sam and G could use a little looking after.

Conspicuous Failings by Waldo
Gen.
Summary: "An inability to stay quiet is one of the conspicuous failings of mankind." - Walter Bagehot

SPN:

Maybe not the kind of comfort you need but maybe it helps? Two Tons of Detroit Steel by K Hanna Korossy
Gen.
Summary: The Impala's played a lot of roles in their lives.

H50:

My favourite comfort fic (and to go comfort fic on shitty days) of H50 is by you. So. Um. Yeah.

Ohhhh, thank you! I've read some of these LA ones, but it's been nice to re-read them and trace some back to other authors.

I can't wait to read your casefic! Why do I get the impression I probably won't like Commander Tillman very much? ;-) I honestly admire Danny's self-control.

Fic Recs...uhm. I have a feeling you probably know all the stories I could rec already, since I'm relatively new to both the H50 and the NCIS:LA fandoms. I'll give it a try, though. ;-)

Some NCIS:LA fics:

Ran Away to Tell the World by JCassie241 (gen)
The seconds, minutes, hours and days after Callen was shot on Ocean Front Walk in Venice. Sam POV.

A G by Any Other Name by emberelle (gen)
On a stakeout, Callen and Sam guess as to the identity of Callen's illusive first name, and Sam sees a little bit clearer into the dark glass known as G Callen. (not really h/c, but lots of friendship)

Five Reasons Why G Trusts Sam by misslucy21 (gen)
There are more than 5 reasons why G trusts Sam more than anyone he's trusted before. But these are the important ones.

It Only Takes Three Minutes by Windimere Wellen (gen)
Sam has a bad feeling - and Callen ends up in trouble.

Fever by LostForeverInHisEyes
Callen gets a cold. Hetty orders Sam to take him home but will that help Callen get better or will Sam be driven to doing something drastic?

(Little Puppet Made of Pine, Awake,) The Gift of Life is Thine. by Waldo (slash)
With so many people not telling Callen the things he needs to hear, Sam realizes there's something he needs to say. (Tag to Familia/Lange, H.)

Friends and Neighbours by Cheryl W (gen)
Callen's breakfast meeting with a contact goes badly and Sam's not there to have his back. (not really h/c, but lots of friendship and angst)

The Stakeout by Greenbush (gen)
A stakeout goes awry for Sam and G.

To Family by donutsweeper (gen)
G. spent his whole life not knowing who he was or where he came from. And just when he finally began to learn about himself he had to face the fact that Hetty had known all along but had never told him, leaving him feeling hurt, betrayed and utterly confused.

The Anniversary by Waiting To Get Out Of Here (gen)
It was the anniversary of The Horrible Thing, and he was so, so incredibly grateful that none of them were here to see him like this. T for brief suicidal thoughts and swear words.

Not as Common as a Cold by Sprite91360 (gen)
Epiloge to LD50, Season 1, where a bio-weapon threat is stopped by the team. Here is a little of what happens after.

(H50 recs in the next comment - LJ cut me off, because my comment was too long :P)

And here's the rest:

H50 fics:

I tend to have fav authors rather than fav stories in this fandom for some reason, and I could pretty much rec any story one of those authors has ever written. You'd usually top my list, but I guess you don't really need me to rec your own fics (*g*), so I'll just ask if you've read the stories (all gen) of Cokie316, Ridley C. James, AZGirl, sockie1000, and Tari Roo?

If you don't mind WIPs (from authors who've finished all their fics so far), I can also rec two new stories (gen) on ffnet that I already love to pieces:

Ho'okahi by Cokie316 (she's already in my fav authors list)
The title, "Ho'okahi" means 'alone' and Steve McGarrett feels very alone, even in the presence of his friends.

Lost by montez
How lost can a person get before it to late? Will they be able to reach out for help and will that help arrive in time? Warning-contains dark themes.

I'm running out of time here, so that's all for now! If you haven't been swamped by recs tomorrow, I'll see if I can hunt down some more H50 recs. I hope you'll find some great comfort fics to read - I don't know about you, but reading stories like that is sometimes the only thing that gets me through tough spots in RL.

Trust your gut on this one :D

I'll def check out some of the authors, I've liked Ridley's stuff in the past and I know Ms. Roo very well :-P

Thank you for all the help!

Ridley's stories stop with the end of season 1, so it's very likely you know her stories already. I love her stuff. :)

Here's a couple of best-of h/c recs for the other three authors, to spare you from having to go through all those profiles:

Hekili Pao by Cokie316
The words 'back up' aren't even in his dictionary! (That's a longer one and I think you might love it - it certainly has all the elements that make me squee!)

Weekend by AZGirl
The team is worried when Steve disappears for an entire weekend. (Just a bit of h/c.)

Stand Down by AZGirl
After all he's been through, Steve needs to realize that it's okay for him to stand down now. Missing scene and spoilers for episode 2.10 Ki'ilua.

And Your Enemies Closer by sokie1000
The team is still reeling from the break-up and arrests. Can they come together to clear their own? This story picks up where "Oia'i'o" the season 1 finale ends.

That's it. I think that should help you to be quickly able to tell if you want to read more of their stories. :)

Ohhh, I don't know most of these. I tend to stick with LJ for fic reading because it's hard to shift through all the er...not so well written fic on ff.net. Thank you for these!

I know what you mean, but I always keep an eye on ff.net because there are some great gen authors who don't seem to post anywhere else. I enjoy reading slash (and the occasional het) fics, too (as long as there's plot, angst and h/c), but my first love is friendship fics rather than romance of any kind and that's what I'm looking for when I need a pick-me-up fic (even if it means I have to brave the deep and murky waters of ff.net to find said fic). :D

WOW. Ran Away to Tell the World was fantastic! Hit all the marks. Emotional, realistic, and no bumps in the road mechanically. Buttons pushed. Thank you.

I think that story is probably my all-time favourite in that fandom. :)

I can give you this one I found the other day, as a H50 rec, it's one of the H50-exchange fics, so the author is unknown.

With All Memory and Fate Driven Deep Beneath the Waves. Summary: Danny swims for survival. No particular warnings, unless you have a thing about water.

Date: 2012-03-31 10:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kristen999.livejournal.com
Thank you! I keep meaning to read this one b/c I think I helped provide a lot of the research links when the author was searching for info about treading water for long periods of time on another com. How ironic :D

From: [identity profile] ms-artisan.livejournal.com
Ha! And even more so, because I normally don't read stories where I don't know the author, so that's the only exchange fic I've actually read before the reveal. :)
