I checked my LJ to ensure the dates and I started writing my [livejournal.com profile] casestory on Feb 24th and wrote until March 21st and got about 12k words done. YAY!

It's April 2nd and the story is due May 1st and I have another 10-15k I think to write. Why muse why??

The good news. I have a month for my betas and edits. This is a Big Bang. Only the rough draft it due on May 1st and posting isn't until early June....but, but...

FLAILS.

I can write 5k a week, right? Then a week to re-write so the poor artist has something readable to choose from. *head desk*

This isn't a story I can just crank out. There's a lot of attention to detail and nuances while trying to keep that emotional edge.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!!!

Huh, interesting insight into your process because I write linear and almost never insert scenes after the fact. I cut more than I add. But yeah, I hear you on the finishing!

I write linear as well. I don't skip scenes, but sometimes upon re-reading, I notice tiny little scenes that need to be added and write myself a note to do it. It could be the nature of the story. This is one of those with twists and turns and I'll notice I didn't follow-up on something or that I skipped a key character's reaction to a development.

I admit one scene requires me to do a little research and I was on a roll so I skipped it to go on to a more emotional section.

In editing, I cut a lot of fat, because I like things to read at a fast clip.

I've never added scenes in. Well, okay, I once added scenes to the beginning of a story because my beta insisted :). But never in the middle. Hmmm.

In editing, I don't cut much, a sentence here, a tell-y moment there -- but I am an intuitive writer and I rarely change stuff.

You are a very concise writer which I love about your stuff. :D If I'm writing something under 5k then I tend to write all out and cut afterward.

With longer stories, if I have an action scene or a scene where there are three to four characters talking, (oi) I revert to writing things like a screenplay. Get all that vital dialogue or action on the screen so I can visualize or hear it - then fill in the details. But I don't 'come back to that' later..it's how I build-up the piece.

Odd. I know :D

I try to be :). I love telling a story with as few words as possible, if I can manage. (I know, 116K, I don't know how that happened.)

It is odd, yes, although I do it with dialogue sometimes, when I can hear the voices in my head, I blow through typing the dialogue and then add movement, etc. in after, but right after, not, say, the next day.
