NIN, Joe, and Writing Randomness

Random randomness.
Funny how on Labor Day I realize that although like most people I don’t get paid for my job, I actually do enjoy it. I report to one person, have the freedom to work at whatever pace I set and create the path in which things get done. I have my tiny office and go in and out as I please.
It is rather nice to like your co-workers be autonomous and work 9-5. A huge difference from my last job.
I’ve been reading about the last Nine Inch Nail shows. There last few are in L.A at venues that hold less than 500 people. To see Trent in such an intimate venue, with no barrier between fans and the stage would be amazing. I’ve heard the shows have been stunning emotional rollercoasters and that he played the entire “Downward Spiral’ from start to finish then about a dozen songs afterward. He’s never played TDS in its entirety live before like that.
Sigh.
On the writing front, I am really enjoying the heck out of my parts of the WW2 AU. The past few days I’ve been dealing with a long Ronon and Teyla scene and realized how much I miss them together! It’s been re-inventing their bonds of sorts, especially given the backdrop of the 1940’s. Beth and I have enjoyed addressing the cultural boundaries and barriers of the time of this story, giving it a very nice slice of reality among all the other historical facets.
Lastly, there’s short interview of Joe Flanigan form Dragon Con below. Thanks to Lythisrose on GW. Joe sounds a lot like the fans in parts of it.

Date: 2009-09-07 10:13 pm (UTC)I agree.
It was mainly due to how it was handled that
created the hard feelings........
There are some, including me, who are still a bit miffed
and as a result not willing to just roll over as though
nothing happened.
I figure they should have fixed it, if it was 'broke', not
thrown it out.

Date: 2009-09-10 04:21 pm (UTC)It seems to me that had SGU and SGA and couldn't afford both. Instead of letting SGA have a final season, they kicked it to the curb for the new shiny toy, thinking fans wouldn't care. It was rude to the cast, crew and to us.
The smart idea would have had a season 6 of SGA with SGU as the lead in, then come its second season there would have been no hard feelings.

Date: 2009-09-10 07:36 pm (UTC)of stuff earlier in the game' and then I was totally amazed to hear
same thing from Joe in an interview video.....almost verbatim.
I thought Season Five ended with a whimper not a bang..........
I mean if you are going to drop a series, at least have it
end with a big bang not a whimper. I know I am probably in a minority,
but to me Vegas was more like what I would expect as a completion,
not what they offered.
IMO it was similar to some books where it is quite obvious that the author just didn't know what to do anymore with the storyline.
Joe, Atlantis fans and the future
Date: 2009-09-08 12:18 am (UTC)I thought the news about the Warehouse 13 episode "Elements", guest-starring our beloved Joe Flanigan, being the highest rated show on SciFi (or SyFy) was it?...was very telling and I wonder if the SyFy PTB realize the significance of it or if they, in their arrogance, will sweep that obvious evidence of Joe's appeal under their dirty little rug and move on? I think they owe the fans and the cast of Atlantis and apology even if their mistake cannot be undone.
I really wish someone out there with a brain and a lot of money would take a chance on Joe, write him a wonderful, interesting character and put all their money on him to make it work. Someone who knows what he's got and isn't afraid of the fact that his name isn't as widely known as the highest paid actors in Hollywood. He would be a very lucrative and valuable long term investment - he's going to be hot for a long time folks! His appeal stretches across all ages, genders, sexual orientation, and cultures...he is crazy attractive, sexy, while somehow remaining boyishly cute, he's quirky, and has personality...well, you know. There are tons of good looking men on TV and in the movies, but I have seen few with the matching inner attractiveness and appeal that Joe Flanigan brings to the screen. I think the fact that he has a life outside of acting helps. He has character and that comes through.
I've read where he is aware that studios aren't taking chances with "unknowns" and that is why we keep seeing the same faces over and over again in movies and now on the major networks on TV. I have noticed just that over the last few years. The same big name actors in all the new movies. It has gotten so old that I rarely go see movies anymore. I want to see new faces out there. Yes, once in a while want to see one of my favorite actors in a role, but not 4 movies in the same year. Jeesh!! Talk about over-exposure. Let Joe Flanigan carry one of those movies.
I don't know if I could watch the new Fall show "CSI: Los Angeles" simply because I think that role would have been perfect for Joe. Not only could he have worked close to home, he is the perfect actor/guy for that role. I would love to see him in a well-written LA detective series. Something clever and new...if that's possible. Who are the writers out there today anyway? Who are they serving? I'm so bored with what is being offered up. What they think we want to see. I am desperate for something truly innovative, with Joe playing the lead character, of course. But I'm biased. Seriously, someone with access and integrity needs to take Joe by the elbow and walk him up to the best people in the business, introduce him and say, "hire this man...you won't be sorry."
I wish Joe and Jason, David and Rachel new successes. I can't wait to hear what Joe's newest project is (which he mentioned at DragonCon). I'm counting down the weeks to when he thinks he can talk about it, and hoping nothing screws it up. I'm glad he doesn't need the money just yet. I hate to see good actors taking jobs solely on the basis of financial need. Hopefully, he'll always be able to avoid that trap. -Diane

Date: 2009-09-09 05:37 pm (UTC)BTW - The Chicago creation photos are up, finally. Yours came out nice - and I can't tell at that size, but I THINK you got a Joe smirk! Its also wierd that for some reason I put my hand on his shoulder rather than his waist, like 95% of the people did.

Date: 2009-09-09 05:41 pm (UTC)Maybe it'll look better when it is not a thumbnail. Yours turned out well, I think the normal pose is the best! I'm watching some of the panels, will try to put the links up before I leave work.
