I'm at work trying to get my last minute to do-list together. There was so much more I wanted to get done before I skipped town. Like I dunno, a few crit reviews I owe a writing group. I might squeeze one in before tonight.

Checked the weather and it's going to be as hot as Hades in D.C, so I'm trying to find a hat that covers the top of my head because the train station between Baltimore and Union station has no shade! (That's tougher than it appears since most were sold during teh spring, but I'm Target bound)But I did find my swimsuit! Woot.

I have my copy of jo_graham's "Stealing Fire" to read on the trip and my small notebook for any plot ideas I've been mulling over for the Help-Haiti story. Speaking of.....

I'm a small details person so my f-list here's a question that I might want to know for the next story.


I'm looking for the comparison of characters, not the actor's ages. Why does it matter? I don't know, like I said. I'm a detail person :D ANd it's a poll! Everyone loves them!

You could extrapolate Cam's birth year from the high school reunion he attended in "Bounty" (2007); according to Wikipedia it was his 20-year reunion.

Hm, interesting question! I don't think that canon mentioned a birthdate/age for John, but in my fannish opinion Cam is either the same age or 1 to 3 years older than John. Something in this range feels "right" for me...

In SG1's "Collateral Damage," memory sequence, Mitchell says:

"We're watching the launch of the first Space Shuttle. I can't be much more than ten years old.

That was 1981 which means he was born 1971 or earlier.

The child clearly does not look 13. So at the earliest he was born 1969. If he was 38 in 2007, that would fit with 1969 as his birthdate.

Sheppard, I am not so sure about.

I picked same age as John Sheppard, based solely on the Stargate Wiki, which lists Mitchell's birth year as 1970, and Sheppard's birthday as June 14, 1970. I have no idea where they got Sheppard's birthday - I don't ever remember hearing this in any of the episodes. I thought I remembered McKay being thrilled to find out he was younger than SHeppard, but I can't remember if that was in the show or in fanfic. It could have been fanfic.

Without that possibly false Wiki statement, I could imagine Sheppard being either the same age or a few years older than Mitchell, maybe 2-3 years at the most. Mitchell's a Lieutenant Colonel when he takes over SG-1 (2005) but I don't know SG:1 well enough to remember if he was promoted after the Battle of Antarctica (and there seemed to be quite a long recovery for him between that and his eventual takeover of SG-1), or if he was already a Lt.Col at that time. Sheppard is promoted to Lt. Col. in 2005, so maybe within a year of Mitchell? But Sheppard also had that black mark on his record to contend with, which could have stalled his career for a few years... Intriguing... you've got my mind spinning now. I wish they'd told us Sheppard's age in the show at least.

My guess of 5+ years is based on respective ranks: COL vs MAJ as seen at the beginning of SGA. It takes a bit to make it up the food chain.

Just by going from sibling gut instinct.. I would stake money that Cam is older than Sheppard.. its just the way the two interact when they meet.

I said 4-5 years older, just because I think he is. He does look older than Shep, IMO, and I know the actors real ages and well, I just always thought Mitchell was a little older. I don't really mind how old they are, to be honest and I always figured both actors were playing younger men on screen. So, um, I still think Mitchell is older! LOL!

I missed the poll part, but after looking up Ben Browder and Joe Flanigan's birthdays I've settled on the 4-5 years older than Sheppard. Browder was born in 1962 and Joe in 1967, according to IMDB.

I've always thought Cam was older just because he was a Lt. Colonel well before Sheppard. I write him as being just a bit older than Sheppard.

I don't have anything concrete to go on but my 'impression' has always been that Mitchell is a little older than Sheppard.

Come to think of it, Cam was a Lt. Colonel when Sheppard was a Major. Considering Caldwell is a Colonel, it seems it would take awhile to reach a new rank. (Sheppard's rank seemed to fit him in season one, IMO. He seemed young to me)

It's not a drastic difference, but Cam has always seemed to be a bit older. This is based on no facts what-so-ever. It's just the way the characters 'feel' to me.

(Been away for awhile...I have a lot of catching up to do it seems, including that epic story you wrote....can't wait)

I don't know if it helps, but one of the newspaper articles we see in Outcast gave John's father's age as 69. Which could mean he was pretty young when John was born, or John's supposed to be a bit younger than Flanigan.
