There's a review of Ferocious Planet here.

The highlights:

Most genre fans have a love/hate relationship with Syfy Channel films, I suspect. While most of us enjoy ninety-minutes of watching a bear-shark-a-cuda chase down unsuspecting victims on a Friday or Saturday Night, there’s no denying a good portion of Syfy original programming simply isn’t worth being subjected to. In fact, some of it is downright unwatchable. Most of the fare coming off like Girls Gone Wild videos with thin genre plot lines to justify being on the network.

But, every once in a while a Syfy Original comes along that’s actually well written, well crafted, and it gives you hope that, perhaps, more such films will follow, which is why we keep watching.

Ferocious Planet is one of those films.

And:

Overseeing security during the demonstration is Colonel Sam Synn (played by Joe Flannigan of Syfy’s Stargate: Atlantis and Warehouse 13). Synn’s a burned out soldier with a checkered past and all he wants to do is get through this babysitting gig so he can get busy with retirement and spend the rest of his days on his boat.

I've been excited for this film, cheese and all. I'm thrilled to read it's fun and well done for the genre. Add to it that I'll be watching this and "A Good Day For It" with [livejournal.com profile] everybetty and I couldn't ask for a better Saturday!

This makes me feel more hopeful. It's not just SyFy's movie track record that's been making me nervous about this movie but sci-fi/horror movies in general, because they still think "good-guys losing, monsters/ghosts winning" a twist ending and it's been driving me crazy.

Plus, I'll admit, I don't want to see Joe's character die. I hate it when my favorite actors play characters who die. I know it isn't real, but it still makes me sad.

All that said, I am looking forward to this movie because Joe! :D

I've been hopeful about the quality being better and reading how Joe and the cast took a more humorous approach to the script.

I won't watch things when my favorite character dies as well.

But I think it'll be a fun riot.

Can't wait to see this. I did find the article a little bit spoilerish to me, but it's not like it will ruin my Joe viewing or anything. :)

Aww, sorry. Nothing really pinged to me, but I edited my post just in case.

It could just be me - it was the talk of things not being what they seem - will have me looking for things that aren't necessarily there. ;)

No worries, it's not a big thing.

I just want to see Joe, Joe, Joe!!!

I am soooo excited for this one. The plot sounds more like a sci fi movie than creature of the week. I'll be happy just to see action!Joe, but if the movie is good I'll consider it a bonus. All the buzz going back to actual filming sounds really positive, adding to my anticipation. Can't wait. I hope it is a huge success, so that Joe gets some good publicity and maybe an offer for a new show.

I'm silly excited for this cheese and all! I was hyped by Joe's comments during filming and the previews were better than expected and now this. I don't expect big time special effects, just some fun!

WEEEEEE

It sounds like Colonel Synn has a lot in common with a certain John Sheppard! I can't wait to see it ... It might actually be worth watching. Good for Joe!

The review is really hopeful! Just watched another SyFy movie, (to test drive a hottie I may be interested in "wish listing", Michael Trucco,)and the plot was so bad it was laughable. The rest was ok, the actors really did OK, and even the special effects (except for one horrible green screen) didn't cause cringes. I watched the whole thing while stuffing envelopes and it was entertaining, but the whole time I was thinking "I really hope Joe's movie is better"!

I think I might go in with low expectations, though, hee hee.

(and we still have "Change of Plans" in the Tivo. My daughter rewatches it every now and then and threatens to pick that show to torture her brother when it's her turn to own the remote, heh. Never object to a little random Joe in the house!)

Hey, how/when do you get to see "Good Day for It?"

I still have low expectations because there is only so much one can do with a low-budget film. But I'm hopeful and just want to see Shep--I mean Synn run around and shoot monsters!

A "Good Day for It" has excellent reviews! It was released on DVD in Australia; yeah, I don't understand either. So, since it's been 'released' it's available in certain places.

E-mil me for a safe place :D

I'll def buy it, no matter. But I'm tried of waiting.

When does it air? I wasn't sure I was going to watch it because I don't really enjoy those types of movies, but the Joe factor is just too strong a pull. Although I still haven't watched "Change of Plans" believe it or not! I think I'll save it to watch with Mom when she comes to visit next month.

"But, every once in a while a Syfy Original comes along that’s actually well written, well crafted, and it gives you hope that, perhaps, more such films will follow, which is why we keep watching."

"Ferocious Planet is one of those films."

When I heard Joe was going to be in a movie I thought, 'yea!!' When I heard it was called 'The Other Side' I thought, 'interesting.' When I heard it was Sy-Fy, I had to physically resist doing a face-palm and resorted to just groaning out loud. When I heard they changed the name to 'Ferocious Planet' I thought my fears were confirmed....Your brief review has brought me hope however.:)

I would watch it regardless because it's JOE!! However, I don't have Sy-Fy right now and probably won't have for at least a couple more months....sigh. Is there any way I could possibly watch this elsewhere?

I miss JF (especially Sheppard) so much.

I didn't get to see Change of Plans now it seems I'm going to miss Ferocious Planet too. I want to see Good Day for It and I would buy it in a heartbeat if I knew where to get it. :(

Anyway, thank you so much for the update on JF and his projects! Happy Saturday to you!! Sounds like a lot of fun.

If you have fast speed I can show you where to get A Good Day for it.

COP will be out on DVD in a few weeks and I'm sure you can get FP via the same means as AGDFI. In either case Ferocious Planet comes out on DVD in June I think.

:D
