Writing question.

Have you ever had a pretty cool idea pop in your head for a fic and once you got your thoughts together you realized that the plot has been covered a lot by other writers?

I mean there are only so many plots in any genre and with a fandom as big certain themes are going to be explored over and over. When does it reach a saturation point and when your 'twist' enough to do it justice?

I've been pondering an idea for a one shot for a while, but I don't like similarity towards other writer's stories. Its kind of frustrating but I think I'm going to go ahead and do it.

Of course I have so many one shot ideas flying around in my head, who knows which one will bite first...but I do want to write something about Shep and his love for flying and the use of an alien craft...have a novel twist as I've said.

Hmmmmmmmm

All stories are somehow derivative; from human experience, history and fantasy borne out of those. And IMHO, no-one can copyright an idea, because I bet my big ass that someone else has had that idea somewhere else or for something else. Every writer puts in pieces of his/her psyche into it - and that's what makes the difference.
