I ordered something from Wal Mart online and it was supposed to be shipped to my apartment by today. I checked the tracking number only to behold that according to Fed Ex, it was delivered on Friday. There was no signature needed for the delivery and according to customer service, the package was 'left on the porch.'

Well, it wasn't! In fact, I'm sure the driver left it on the front porch to apartments 1-4 and not MY porch, which is in the rear.

Fed Ex said they sent a notice to the driver who will come out Tuesday to investigate. Of course I'll be at work and he'll call. Sure.

But seriously. What's going to be my recourse? If the driver admits to mistakenly dropping it off at the wrong door, is Fed Ex going to pay me for it? And what kind of red tape is that going to involve?

Is Fed Ex going to claim, "hey they delivered", not their fault if my neighbors took it.

Can I call Wal Mart Customer Service and tell them I never got my package and to send me a new one, or will they blame Fed Ex?

I left at note on the front door leading to the other apartments. It was very friendly and non-accusatory, stating that Fed Ex left a package on the front porch and if anyone 'saw it' could they please leave it at my door.

I doubt I'm going to see it and the package has $150 item in it.

Has anyone in the States had this happen? How did it get resolved?

Help!

Let me send your note to my friend Dave Hansen who has been with FEDEX for sometime.......He is now safety inspector for an area along eastern seaboard, but was director of safety out of Memphis, their hub.
Let me ask him what your recourse is.......

Notify Walmart that you never received your item. It's up to Fedex to confirm delivery. Since you didn't sign for it, they can't. Walmart will most likely ship out another package.

Also, if you made your purchase with a CC, then you can make a claim with your credit card company that the item was never received. As long as you're not a 'serial' claimer, they will most likely issue a credit for the item.

When I call Wal Mart should I mention that Fed Ex claimed it was delivered and it wasn't? Or should I omit that and say that I just never got it period? They send out an e-mail for you to track the package, so I'm not sure what they expect of me.

I used paypal to purchase it, so Im pretty sure/hope I cna get it credited if things don't pan out.

Thanks.

Let them know that you believe Fedex delivered your package to the wrong location if they ask. Walmart may ask you to wait a few days to see if Fedex can correct the problem but if they can't, Walmart will probably resend your item.

Addendum to my last

I hope you don't mind, but I sent your query to Dave at his FEDEX email address.
I am also going to BCC it to his yahoo address also as I don't know if he is doing satellite work today or at the office.

I may be wrong but I would think that your contract would be with the retailer - Walmart - and if the courier they chose to use failed to properly deliver the item then they should send you a replacement and it's up to them to pursure FedEx for compensation for the lost item.

Regardless of whether an item needs to be signed for, just leaving it on a doorstep - particular one that is clearly of a shared residence, such as an apartment complex - does not constitute "delivering" it.. at least not in my book!

You make many good points! I'll see what the Fed Ex guy says tomorrow and give Wal Mart a call. As you said, my contract is with them.

Thank you.

I'll echo the people above and say contact Walmart and tell them that FedEx says it was delivered but it's not there. I haven't dealt with Walmart about shipping before, but Amazon has been good about resending/refunding a couple of times when things have gone wrong, including once when it was actually patently my fault -- I still had an old address as the primary one for my account, and the package got shipped to a house where I no longer lived, in another state. They still gave me a refund.

Thank you for the advice. I'm thinking Walmart will be my best course of action.

Good luck getting a replacement. Walmart should do that with little fuss. I hope your apartment neighbors return your item, although I myself have little faith in apartment folks. I've had two packages, that I know of, stolen from in front of my apartment. I now send everything to my mom's house and pick it up later.

I should have had it sent to work...for now on I will. I'll deal with Walmart tomorrow, I'm supposed to hear from FedEx today, but I'd rather just my item re-shipped than deal with a long drawn out issue regarding re-payment.

Oh fergoshsakes. *hugs*

I agree that Walmart would be the place to start. Its where I'd start, get my credit or a replacement and let them fight out compensation with FedEx.

Is it possible to have packages delivered to you at work? That's what I do as I dont like anything left on my porch. Too easy to steal and its sad that we all have to think of that. :(

I think for now on Ill have it sent to work. I had considered that at first, but opted not to knowing I'd have to carry it home....next time though.

Fedex and the other DHL guys have gotten bad reps due to sloppy delivery. The DHL delivered a package to my archaeology teacher and just left it on her porch and her neighbor's teenage son stole it. It was for the anthropology museum and it was never replaced.

I haven't been liking UPS either. They were supposed to pick up a package for return and I had to ambush another driver to return it. He told me another driver had reported he tried to pick it up 3 times. I'm retired and am at home almost 24/7!!

They all suck.

Yeah, I had one package that the post office only tried delivering on Saturdays. Seriously, no other day. I'll stick to having things sent to work for now on.
